The Azzurri Club of Portland was founded in the fall of 2004. The club’s roots can be traced back to the (Portland) Azzurri indoor soccer team, which was formed in the year 2000. The players, all Italian immigrants, noted that there wasn’t a club in Portland that represented other Italians of their age group. From there was born of the idea of the Azzurri Club of Portland. The goal was simple, create a club that at first would be centered around the team (thus the name Azzurri), and would in time grow to include cultural events and activities.
Since that time the club has held various events which include an annual picnic, and the soon to be legendary annual dinner – that acts as a fundraiser for the club. In 2006 they held the first annual Carnevale, geared toward the children of the families of the Italian community.
